Dog Loneliness – Work In Solano County? Visit Home For Lunch

• Dog petting is healthy & alleviates dog loneliness. Petting dogs produces major effects on the cardiovascular systems in dogs and people.
• Interesting studies show dogs possess telepathic connections with their owners. While I doubt all the studies, there seems to be something to it. For example, many Solano dog owners claim dogs know things like when they are returning from a trip outside Solano County.
• Dog Loneliness is one of the biggest barriers to having a healthy human dog relationship. Dog loneliness causes serious emotional issues and cause all types of havoc.
• Dogs often love to sit right by you.
• If you can, come home for lunch, and hang out with your dog. If you’re lucky, you work somewhere in Solano’s Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Suisun City, Vacaville or Vallejo, or perhaps nearby Napa, or Davis in Yolo County.

Dog Grooming

• Retained dead hair is retained when dogs aren’t groomed often. It gets smelly too.
• Non-groomed hair can retain Solano ticks, fleas and mites. Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo; plus Napa and Yolo Counties have serious problems with ticks carrying lyme disease. The problem is throughout the USA too, and not just Northern California’s San Francisco Bay Area eight bay area counties.
• Brush thoroughly before washing.
• Do the head last. This helps keep your dog from shaking water.
• Solano Dog Grooming Services: Solano County’s Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo have many dog groomers. Or save money and do it yourself!

Dog Training & Dog Relationship. Train Yourself Or Hire Solano Dog Trainer

• It’s more than technique. Solano dog trainers will tell you attitude is equally important for the best dog training.
• The dog owner who takes control helps set the energy between the person and their dog. So put yourself into a good state of mind. Relax.
• First reduce tensions you may have. Take a deep breath. Follow your breath. Then try to find harmony with yourself and your breathing. Allow yourself to calm down.
• Meditating 20 minutes a day is a great way to reduce your stress and improve the quality of your life. Studies show it has countless medical benefits, and can increase your life span too. Consider starting or joining a Solano meditation group, or Solano meditation center in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville or Vallejo. Or buy a meditation book.

Coprophagia

Coprophagia is common in Solano dogs. “Coprophagia” is another term for dog’s eating stool. It might represent malnourishment. To make their stool less appealing sprinkle the dog food with ‘Accent – it makes the stool less attractive to the dog’s nose. Red pepper sauce or vinegar on the stool also might work.

Dog Not Eating At All, Or Enough Food?

• Dogs often mirror how we feel.
• Better to let the dog skip a few meals than have them wait it out for super expensive dog food.
• If the dog is ill, you might hand feed them. Do this rarely as it may reduce your authority in the dogs view.

Avoid Giving Puppy Water At Night?

• This encourages dogs urinating. It’s more important when house training puppies.
• I read it’s not good to give dogs water 30 minutes before eating or exercising. It was from a credible source, and the reasons weren’t given.

Quality Dog Food Ingredients

• Dogs don’t digest carbohydrates well.
• Some say at least 22% of the food should be protein. (More if they’re puppies, and less if they’re old). Many in Solano County are more hung up on protein than need be.
• Excess protein can be tied to dog hyperactivity, and greater difficulty in retaining dog training lessons.
• Meat shouldn’t exceed 25% of the dog’s diet.
• Two smaller daily meals are better than one large meal. The breakfast should be the larger meal.
• Ask the dog to sit before feeding, or giving a treat.
• Solano veterinarians discourage canned dog food because: It’s fatty. Dried kibble helps clean dog’s teeth. Canned dog food at least in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo is too expensive. Like people, what dogs like to eat isn’t always best for them. Dogs stay slimmer with dry kibble.

Solano Dog Food Stores

Dog Food Stores In Solano: My Fairfield veterinarian said these dog food brands are the best. Being more expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best. Wal-Mart didn’t carry any dried kibble for these brands when I checked. They were carried by Vacaville’s PetSmart, and PetCo in Fairfield and Vacaville. The latter two have frequent sales so you might buy a bit extra.
• Eukanuba (too expensive?)
• Iams
• Science Diet
• Blue Buffalo (too expensive?)

Using Dog Names Properly

• Dog names are meant to get the dog’s attention. Say the dog name followed immediately by the command.
• Using the dog name as a form of “come” will confuse the dog.

Picking Dog Names For Your Puppy

• Two syllable dog names are better.
• Try picking dog names with the letters “a” and “o”.
• Cutesy names for a puppy like “Cupcake” can wear off when the dog gets older.
• Avoid names that sound like something else you commonly say. This helps reduce the dog’s confusion.
• Dogs sense ridicule. So skip dog names that make fun of the dog.
• What does your deeper self want the puppy’s name to sound like? Pick a dog’s name that resonates with you.

When Not To Call Your Dog’s Name

• Dog’s Name During Disciplining: Never use your dog’s name when your dog is being corrected; or when calling dog to be disciplined. Why? This causes her to have negative associations with your calling her name. Instead of calling her, go to her. If needed get her by the leash or collar and take her where you want her to go.
• Inviting your dog to her den (cage). She many not want to go.

Dog Discipline

• Having your dog in a long “down-stay” (she is laying on ground and staying), gives you the Solano dog owner needed control. It establishes you as the alpha in the dog’s view (reinforces that you are in control and the dog isn’t controlling you).
• Look directly into her eyes when disciplining.
• Have a strong tone. Feel that you are in charge, and not the dog! Dog’s will sense your weakness if you choose to be weak about it.
• Pay no attention to your dog for say 30 minutes after an offense. You can remain passive. Don’t speak with the dog, or make eye contact. The dog needs time to readjust.
• If the dog shows no signs of submission after the punishment, check to see how well you are following through with your disciplinary procedures. If the dog comes and nudges you 5-10 minutes after the discipline, there’s a good chance the dog didn’t learn it’s lesson yet.
• Avoid dramatic make ups.
• Discipline in proportion to the offense. Don’t make the dog feel you’re unjust.
• Don’t be one of those who take their anger out on the dog. It’s easy to get trapped into being constantly angry at your dog. If needed work on improving yourself, while you work on your dog. This can be counter productive. Neither you nor the dog should take the errors personally!
• Solano bookstores have great dog books. Train the dog yourself. Or consider a Solano dog trainer in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo. Or try dog trainers in Napa, Contra Costa and Yolo Counties.

Match Praising Dog With Situation

• Be business like after they were bad. Then praise them in 30 minutes. Never forget to let the dog know you love them!
• Overloading dogs with praise while they’re hyperactive can increase their hyper state. Focus more on praising when they’re calmer.
• If your dog breaks the command while giving an explosive lavish praise, consider toning down your praise.
• Food treats are not to replace your sincere verbal and physical praise.

Praising Dogs In General

• You generally can’t praise canines too often.
• Dogs usually like body contact, and don’t appreciate slapping, heavy pounding, or pulling.
• Dogs equally need verbal and physical praise.
• Many people don’t praise enough.
• Be consistent: Follow every command done correctly with your loving praise.

Dog Air Travel Tips

Checking your dog into the airport:
• Air Travel: Prefer direct flights. Freeze the water in a bowl. Put a note on your suitcase remembering to take it. Easy to plan, and easy to forget.
• Put a big sign on your travel crate saying something like “Hi, I’m Fido” – or something friendly. Airline personnel might be more likely to cheerfully say hello. Also better chance your dog will stay alive.
• Airport driving times during Normal traffic – from Fairfield’s I-80 and highway 12 interchange: Sacramento International Airport – 45 minutes. Oakland and San Francisco International Airport – 50 minutes.
• I didn't find the airports took much more time when traveling with my dog.
• Alaska Air and Horizon Air just dropped their cargo kennel check in fees from $150 to $100.

Solano Hotels Allowing Dogs & Cats

Which Solano Hotels Allow Dogs & Cats? Most Holiday Inns may take dogs in the U.S. Other Solano hotels and motels in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo; plus Napa and Yolo Counties might take dogs, but often take only small dogs. Check back for remarks on Solano hotel dog and cat policies that caan get posted on this Solano Dogs blog.

Vacation Checklist For Your Dog

Traveling Beyond Solano County?

• Extra set of car keys for summer travel: Leave the car running with the air conditioning. As the car could stall and shut off the a/c, make sure not to leave your dog in the car too long.
• Water bowl.
• Doggie den (sounds nicer than kennel or cage)
• Chew toy or two.
• Something to retrieve.
• Grooming supplies
• Medicine
• Old towels
• Poop bags or scooper.
• A health certificate if you’re traveling outside California (at least needed by airlines). I was recently told it had to be like no more than a month old. Verify with your vet.
• Fun energy..!

Water Rinse Between Soap Washes

What about just rinsing Fido with a strong hose? Will it get to the skin a bit and help reduce a portion of the smell? I realize soap cleans better, but one can't shampoo that often. Soap breeds like Labrador Retrievers have fur keeping the skin from getting wet. Yet a hose pointed to the fur might actually reach the skin? Thank You. Steven

Fairfield & Suisun Dog Parks Needed

Suisun City and Fairfield need a dog park. If only Suisun and Fairfield had the money for good dog parks.

I only needed 1% to win the Fairfield City Council election. Fairfield voters repeatedly tell me they want a dog park and don't want increased taxes. I suggest Fairfield City council divert more tax dollars into economic development. This creates more jobs, and increases the tax base without having to raise taxes..! Plus more jobs means less crime.

Oh, if there's less crime would fewer people get a dog?

Key Points On Dog Training

Key Points:
• Follow scolding with make up time – Always!
• Praise by: scratching chest, or kissing between her eyes
• She understands you body language.
• Don’t let her chase rabbits, deer and such. She may not return.
• She can be left in the house over night, out of a kennel box. She should be in the kennel overnight until she learns the house rules.
• Pamper and play with her.
• She’ll try your patience when you’re busy. Have a place for her to chill.
• Expect her to get into trouble. Scold her. Be very loud and threatening when necessary! Then always make up right away. Don’t allow her to fail!
• Ample Toys: Loves Kong ball (but peanut butter inside). Squeaky toys. Rope toys (helps clean teeth). You want her to happily chew them up, and not your home.
• Give her a week to bond before expecting too much from her.

Consistently Reprimand Bad Behavior - Then Make Up.
Reward Good Behavior.

Hug Her Much – She Loves It!

Human Body Signals Read By Dog

Your Body Signals Are Read By Your Dog:
• Pat where you want her to go or sit
• Beckon her with palm facing up, and fingers coming back and forth towards you.
• Palm towards her face: Do this when you say “Sit” or “Stay”
• Nudge her in the direction you want her to go with your knee or leg.

Words To Teach Your Dog

• “Fido”: Lets her know you are referring to her.
• “Hold” and “Release”: Game or object she’s holding
• “Sit”: Also means Stay
• “Stay”
• “No”
• “Ah Ah” = No when she’s about to do something. Mild reprimand.
• “AaaaaaaHHHHHHHHHHHHH !” = No !
• Kissing Sound: beckons her
• “Cookie”: her treat once or twice a day
• “Good Girl”: Clue she is pleasing you.
• “OK” = She is released from command to do what she wants. Cue to go and play.
• “Off”: If she jumps on you
• “Heal”
• “Back”: Go back and retrieve something she missed.
• “Over”: Sends her in the direction you point.
• “Up”: To get her up onto something, e.g. car.
• “Hold”: Hold any object
• “Heal”: Walk beside you

Smartest Way To Pick Your Dog

Why are Labrador Retrievers the most popular dogs? Labs are probably the smartest, and friendliest. Your time is valuable. A well-trained retriever good to go, saves your time, hassle and reduces chances dog destroy expensive items. While some trained hunting Labradors are expensive – other trained retrievers that failed the hunting test are more affordable and make great pets. The latter are often calmer too. Golden Retrievers are great but have long hair. Non-trained Labradors might not make the best guard dogs. Buying an older puppy or young adult - know what you’re getting. A Labrador normally lives 13-14 years (not hit by a car). Pick your breed carefully. Northern California’s best trained retrievers TrainedRetrievers.com has Labrador retriever puppies and pre-trained Labrador retrievers for sale. Gary trains retrievers, or he might have a trained retriever for sale. If you’re getting a dog, basic obedience from trained retrievers is a smart choice. I’ll only get trained retrievers in future for these and other reasons I’ll share in the blog later..!
